Description:
APA is a non-profit public interest and research organization representing more than 30,000 practicing planners, officials, and citizens concerned with urban and rural planning issues. Formed in 1978, APA was created from the merger of the American Society of Planning Officials, whose office was in Chicago. and the American Institute of Planners, whose office was in Washington, D.C. APA works to support the practice of good planning throughout the country in deciding how to develop, use, and enjoy our communities. To carry out this mission, APA conducts a wide range of advocacy and educational activities, including forums, workshops and other educational programs, an annual nationwide conference, an awards program, policy studies, lobbying, preparation and distribution of publications. APA also provides job services as well as a certification program for proferssional planners. APA's NY Chapter addresses planning issues that concern the physical, social, and economic environment in the metropolitan region encompassing New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley.
