Description:
OHBTA has more than 25 years of experience as the primary provider of housing and related services in it's overwhelmingly low-income, African-American and Latino community of Brooklyn. It has deep roots in this community through its long history of work and service, and through the ties and activities of its staff and its community-based Board of Directors. It is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization with proven fiscal responsibility and administrative capacity managing an annual budget of over $1.5 million annually and a staff of over 24 full-time and part-time employees.

OBHTA has a solid record of accomplishments in tenant organizing, education, and counseling; renovating and managing low-income housing; and helping low-income people own and operate cooperative and mutual housing. OHBTA continues to work towards meeting the needs of its community and has recently launched new, innovative programs of youth services, childcare and worker/community-owned enterprises.

Project Examples:
OHBTA counsels an average of 12-15 people daily, assisting them with various entitlement program applications, SCRIE, Section 8, NYCHA, HEAP, and apartment applications. In addition to OBHTA's advocacy work, we also provide housing assistance; referrals to Legal Services, information on eviction notices, resolving essential service complaints, working through HPD's Office of Code Enforcement, and the NYS Division of Housing, Community Renewal.::::9/11 -- Clothing Drive-on going.
